Descriptions
The Piano Technology program addresses the continuing need for piano tuner/technicians throughout the United States and the world. The course of study provides students with the ability to tune, regulate and repair the actions of pianos. The course sequence combines hands-on training on vertical and grand pianos, historical aspects of pianos and piano repair, studies in musical acoustics and a course in small business arts management. Students will be prepared with the latest methods and procedures to become successful in the field of Piano Technology.
The Hartford Conservatory subscribes to the philosophy that all Piano Technology students must have a moderate level of proficiency in music when they graduate. This is accomplished through courses such as piano instruction and ear training.
Students seeking admission to the program need to have technical aptitude, fine motor skills, an interest in working with their hands, an interest in how things work, high standards and a great deal of patience.
No musical audition is required.
