Department Deans
Susan Murphy, Dean of Dance, Dance History, Anatomy and Kinesiology, Performance Lab, Dance Pedagogy, MALS Wesleyan University, Dance Education, BFA, CCSU; Diploma, Hartford Conservatory. In addition to her duties as Dean at the Conservatory, Susan is on faculty at Saint Joseph College, teaching dance. She was the former director of the Dance Services Network, performed with Sonia Plumb Dance Co.; EBA Dance Theater, NY; Albano Ballet; Footnotes Dance Company. In addition, she originated the First Steps children's movement program taught throughout the Greater Hartford region. She has also choreographed works for the Hartford Symphony. Susan is a founding member of the CT State Educators Task Force, The Hartford Dance Umbrella and Connecticut Dance Alliance.
Walter Gwardyak, Dean of Music, Jazz Piano, Harmony, Acoustics, Jazz Ensemble, Arranging, earned his BS from Southern Connecticut State University. He is a former member of the Buddy Rich Band, and has performed in concert with Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, Pepper Adams, Jimmy Heath, Sal Nistico, Warren Vache, Lou Donaldson, and George Coleman. Walter has also performed at several Presidential Inaugurations in Washington, D.C. He received the Connecticut Commission on the Arts award for Jazz Composition and Arranging in 1999; he is currently the Director of the New England Jazz Ensemble.
Jerry Prell, Dean of Musical Theater, Musical Theater Performance Lab, Industry, Practicum, has been working as an actor, teacher, and director for more than thirty years. He is the founder and former Artistic/Managing Director of New England Academy of Theatre (NEAT). Jerry has worked in feature films, television and on stage in New York, Los Angeles, regionally and in Europe. His directing credits include: WORKING; You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown; Pippin; Fiddler on the Roof; TomFoolery; Side by Side by Sondheim, and for NEAT; Eaglestones, Beyond Therapy, Little Egypt, one-acts for NEAT’s Short & NEAT Festival at the Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, and Domestic Chaos at the Samuel French One-Act Play Festival in NYC. Jerry is a recipient of the Arts Council Of Greater New Haven’s 1995 Arts Award and the 1998 Connecticut Commission on the Arts Distinguished Advocate for the Arts Award.
John Bolduc, Dean of Recording Arts, Song Writing, MIDI Lab, Multi Track Lab, Practical Recording, Record Production Lab, Music Industry, has worked extensively in the recording industry. His past work experience includes working as a sound engineer with Sony Studios, and for many years with Nickel Recording Studios. He recorded with Tim Hatfield, Steve Morse, Eddy Money, and Boyz II Men, among others. He is a graduate of the Hartford Conservatory, Recording Institute of America and S.A.M.I.
